Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
Don't pay it. Send one letter to the parking firm explaining you're not paying it and the reason why. End it along the lines of "I assume this will suffice, and will hear no further".

Likelihood is they won't respond, and you're in the clear. In any case, they are not going to take you to court for that sort of money. They'll just write it off. Private firms rarely take it further, they chance their arm for naive people.

Only pay parking fines if it's issued by the government.

You are right, it was Watchdog. I didn't know that the rules had changed. Thanks for that.

"There was a programme about these cowboys and the lawyer said on there to just bin them. There is nothing they can do."

The program was Watchdog and the relevant segment is still on Youtube. One of the comments under the vid:-

"The advice given in this video is outdated. For anyone living in England or Wales, DON'T ignore PCNs from private companies if they were issued from 2013 onwards"

If you can convince the store that you are a regular shopper there, maybe the store will pay it, rather than them losing hundreds or even several thousands pounds each year.

It's Pay & Display. You have to both pay for a ticket and then clearly display it.

Don't think your question at the end of your post comes into it unfortunately.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
I got a parking ticket from a council run car park about 6 months ago. £60 reduced to £30 for quick payment. I had bought a ticket, and displayed it in the corner of my windscreen by the steering wheel. I appealed it 3 times with the council, then had it refured to the parking omnibus man. It was a solicitor who reviewed the case, and she found in the councils favour, noting, "The parking attendant would not of been able not to see the ticket if it was properly displayed!! She excepted I had bought a ticket, just I had not displayed it properly!!! Why would you but a ticket, then not display it?? Fucking joke.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
To be honest I don't think we even bothered with the receipt, just proof we had bought a ticket.

Parking without a ticket.

I can prove I had a ticket and I was shopping in the store at the time.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
I got a fine about 3 years ago, not for Sainsburys but at Brookfield shopping centre. The difference with mine was that it was a free car park but you still had to get a ticket which I did.
A week later I got the fine saying that I had overstayed the 90 minute time limit. I had no idea that there was a limit, and there were no signs to say so.

Looking on line for information I found out that all these companies can legally only charge you for the money they have lost out on. So in our case if I had left on time, the next person would have been free. So we ignored it We got letters about every month with the price going up each time. The fine went from £30 to £210 and then it started going down! Then we were threatened with Debt recovery etc and taken to court.

Then the letters stopped. About a year later we got another letter from a different company who had taken over the debts and saying they now took people to court but we still ignored it and they just stopped. We were confident that if we had gone to court that we would have been in the right.

There was a programme about these cowboys and the lawyer said on there to just bin them. There is nothing they can do.

That sounds promising. I have the parking ticket but not the receipt although I paid in-store on my card so Sainsburys will be able to confirm this.

Will give that a go first, then if that fails will go back to the store and ask there. If that doesn't work will just pay it and try and get the £ back through posting on their facebook page.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
What are they invoicing you for?

What have you got proof you paid for?

Tell them to do one.

They don't have the law on their side. They are chancers.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
Same thing happened to me, sent copies of the parking ticket and receipt to the parking firm and they cancelled the fine.

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
You asked me for advice a few years ago Penners did you pay it ???

I can't find anything on the Internet that say's these people are winning court cases !!!

penners28 12:52 Thu Sep 29
Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
ive noticed more and more that they are actively pursuing lower value tickets now.

take the advice of an ex-bailiff, and someone who deals with legal matters everyday. pay it now, then take it up with sainsburys via social media

Re: Sainsbury Parking Ticket
So are these leeches taking people to court now ?
The only court case I know of was Parking Eye and they lost !!!

Don't ignore it. They are getting tougher on these nowadays and have found that they have more success with people who ignore.

https://popla.co.uk/

Apparently you have a 61% chance of success if you appeal to Popla, and given your circumstances you'd almost certainly win.

I've had two of these so called fines from Parking Eye and on both occasions I binned them.
They earn millions from the poor suckers that pay these mickey mouse fines.
